The Neuro Spice Girl: Growing My Wings

In order to become the butterfly, one must commit to climbing fully into the hole of their own darkness, for that is where one can truly transform. The period where the caterpillar unravels into its bare necessary components is crucial to its full becoming. It’s the only way that something new can form.

We have to shed our ego, and what we believe we know to be true during this time. Separate the belief systems that are truly ours and those that have been imposed upon us. We need to look at all our inner workings and decide if we are truly who we want to be. Lay everything on the table and decide what’s still useful, and what is keeping us from growth. Like the caterpillar sheds its skin, while it holds its central nervous system structure, the non-useful parts are deconstructed.

Then, the caterpillar seemingly is nonactive to the outside, while it does all its work from the inside. From afar, the inner work we do might go unnoticed. We can feel alone while we retreat into our safety bubble, protecting ourselves from the harshness of the world outside. But you deserve to heal in peace, and without judgement of what your broken parts look like. Turn to safe people, comfort items and take care of yourself during this time. Seek the help you require to rebuild.

As you become this new version of you, you’ll feel yourself begin to breakout and start to find your authentic self again. We will feel our outer protective shield cracking open, and we must choose to crawl out. This can feel uncomfortable, as we are acclimating to our new reality, but it will feel freeing. Tap into your imagination, and express who you are in any form. Look for inspiration, and just create anything. A sketch, a makeup look, watercolor, paint, make a design out of materials in nature, make designs in the clouds, dance to your favorite song, sing in your shower, cook a new meal!! There are so many ways to incorporate creativity into our lives, we just have to look for the opportunities.

The more you practice being your authentic self, the harder it will be to be anything else. Now our wings have grown. We are ready to fly. We have to put ourselves out of our comfort zone in order to experience the beauty of the world as our new selves. We can’t predict the outcome of doing so, but I do know that it is better than never leaving the chrysalis.

Each month I will expand upon my personal experience of deconstructing and rebuilding into my true self. I plan to speak on neurodivergence, mental health, coping skills, and the reward of living in alignment with your authentic spirit. Thanks for being here, your time and attention is a much appreciated and priceless gift.
