Strange & Wonderful Questions with Cloudhouse Owner, Lauren Cody
Share
For our first array into blogdom, we will be asking none other than Cloudhouse owner, Lauren Cody, some questions to get to know her a little better.
What’s something you could talk about for hours if someone let you?
Music, art, books, or anything related to the metaphysical. Anyone who knows me well will say I’m a good listener and observer so I also want to know what you have to say.
What’s a small thing that instantly makes your day better?
A slow morning. Coffee, records on, sitting with the dogs in the garden, and nothing urgent to attend to.

What’s the most spontaneous thing you've ever done?
Made an impulse purchase in the shopping line? Ha. I’m not a spontaneous person. I’m a Cancer double Capricorn raised by Capricorns. I’ve done many exciting things in my life, but they were all decidedly planned.
What’s something about you that people usually don’t realize until they know you well?
I’ve been vegan since 2005. I don’t typically bring it up because of the old adage that vegans will be the first people to let you know they’re vegan. 2005 was also the year I became an esthetician!
What kind of people do you feel most yourself around?
I’m very lucky to live in my favorite place Portland, Oregon which attracts many kind, talented, and interesting people. People sometimes refer to the sort of wonderland we live in as the “Portland bubble” (as if that’s a bad thing), but it’s a community where people can authentically be themselves, and that’s when I’m most comfortable.
What’s something you’re really looking forward to right now?
I’m very much looking forward to the next year for Cloudhouse. We’re planning on hitting the festival circuit hard next year, and hopefully will be opening a physical location in Portland!

What’s a completely irrational hill you would die on?
We are all more capable than we know and can change the world if we want to. The work is hard, but it’s doable.
If you had to be haunted by one celebrity for the rest of your life, who would you choose?
Easy. Kurt Vonnegut. My favorite writer. He was very influential to me in my coming of age years. He’s the reason I call myself a secular humanist. Bless him.

If your life had a weird little side quest right now, what would it be?
I think my weird little side quest is Cloudhouse. When I first started Cloudhouse, I had a vision and a dream, but no idea how to make it happen. I’ve had to figure it out along the way.
What’s something completely mundane that you secretly find fascinating?
Microscopic photos of sand.

If you had to replace your hands with something other than hands, what would you pick?
I have a foot phobia so this is horrifying to contemplate, but probably feet would be the most rational replacement.
If you were a cryptid, what would people say you do?
I’m a mirror that shows people the best versions of themselves and encourages them to follow their most authentic path.
If your aura had a smell, what would it smell like?
Fruit salad (actual photo of Lauren's aura).

If you had to haunt one place after you died, where would you haunt?
The Sellwood Mausoleum (Wilhelm's Portland Memorial) in Portland, OR.

If you had to spend a year living in one fictional universe, which one? And would you actually survive?
Fantastic Planet except I’d be an alien so yes...

Watch Fantastic Planet, the 1973 surrealist animated sci-fi art film here.
